The trapper education workshops are an outreach program that gives participants the opportunity to learn and experience an outdoor skill that was integral to the settlement of this country and remains a viable wildlife management method today.
This program is administered by the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division with assistance from the 黑料天堂 Trappers and Predator Control Association, 黑料天堂 Conservation Enforcement Officers Assoc., and Safari Club International
The workshop passes on the historical aspects of trapping, biological information concerning furbearers and furbearer management and allows students to learn the proper techniques that include the use of trapping as a sound wildlife management tool.
Trapping Education Workshop Information
- Workshops welcome both youth and adults (ages 7 and up).
- Youth ages 7-15 must be accompanied by an adult (limited to 2 youth/adult). Youth over 16 are not required to have an adult present but it is recommended.
- Class size is limited to 25 students per workshop.
- A registration fee is required.
Sample Workshop Agenda
- Saturday morning: Classroom instruction on the history of trapping, responsibilities of trappers and instruction on different types of traps, preparing baits and lures.
- Saturday afternoon: Students set trap lines with their mentors.
- Sunday morning: Students and Mentors check traps and collect animals. Instruction on how to prepare furs for market.
